Liz and Dan agreed to do a “day after” photo session while in Maui to take advantage of our time on the island. They hadn’t taken engagement photos, so this was more of a casual thing.
While we were taking photos by the Black Rock, a man dressed in traditional Hawaiian garb sprinted past us carrying a lit torch. We watched him quickly pick his way along the sharp rocks and out to the end of the cliff, lighting more torches as he went. At the end, he paused dramatically, threw his torch into the water, and then dove in after it. His “daring” stunt off the “dangerous” cliff had everyone on the beach clapping. As he swam ashore, the tourist kids continued to climb and jump off the same rocks. There was no applause for them.
We were hoping for a gloriously pink sunset – there had been one on our first night in Maui – but the sky refused to participate and we made do with a few gold lined clouds against a darkening sky.
As we were walking back to the resort, a giant full moon rose from behind another curtain of clouds. It was beautiful. I wasn’t sure I could capture it with the lenses I had, but we gave it a good ol’ college try and here you go… a big white dot in the photo!
